Discover How To Use A 20 Foot Shipping Container

The 20 foot shipping container that have lost their appeal for shipping have regained some life and now provide housing for many people. These containers have been used for many other applications other than shipping. To learn some history and new application for this container, read this article.

Many years ago the 20 foot shipping container was invented for shipment of goods. The first shipping company to use the shipping container was Matson. The height and length of this steel container van is ideal for shipment purposes. However, as years pass by, no longer do shipping companies use the same van. Hence, they are discarded as used shipping container.

Because these used shipping containers are left idle in one place, and can cause pollution to the environment, some geniuses worked on finding more uses for these storage containers. And they did.

These geniuses converted the metal containers into housing facilities, making a small and local community providing safe shelter and storage for many. The containers are even joined together to resemble a multi-storey and multi-room structure.

Hence, each unit can have two or three-storey complete with bedrooms, kitchen, living room, toilet and even a terrace. These units are placed side-by-side resembling a multi-units apartment building.

There are even beach resorts in the United States that have beach houses built from several 20 foot shipping containers. These containers are repaired and repainted to appear as if the entire structure has been constructed from new concrete and wooden materials.

Besides that, there are also industries that find the steel shipping container to be useful. Businesses use these ISO shipping containers as a portable building for temporary or permanent office, on-site office, and storage room. The containers are designed to meet the requirements of having an office building with amenities. Some use these metal objects for extension of office.

Once on of Vegas’ most problem-plagued properties, the Tod Motor Motel is now a haven for weary travelers

When you arrive at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport, there will be a man with a sign waiting. He will take your bags and usher you into the limousine and whisk you away to your destination on the Las Vegas Strip. When you arrive, you won’t have to tip him or pay for the ride. That’s all included in the $19 you are paying for your room.

Nineteen dollars.

The Tod Motor Motel is a youth hostel whose only advertising so far is word of mouth. The online buzz it gets from adventurous backpackers from across the globe is priceless PR. “Clean, friendly and helpful”; “The best hostel”; and “I give them 100 marks. Perfect!” are some of the variations you can easily find by punching its name into Google.

And judging by the easy, relaxed faces smiling around the sparkling blue pool, you’d never guess that this location, with its cheerful five-dollar movie and barbecue nights, was once one of the most sordid and notorious places in town.

“Worst ever,” reads an old review from one hapless traveler. “If you are looking for crack and other assorted drugs this is the place for you. Dangerous for children.”

This person disputed the charge on their credit card statement.

Not only was Tod dangerous, it was also forgotten by law enforcement. Police officers, aware that the former owners had long since gone down a road of compliance with drug trafficking and prostitution, had given up responding to calls in the area. There was nothing left for them to do but make a perfunctory show of faith by cruising the area once or twice a night.

So when Ran Tadmor, a local real estate agent with a penchant for taking risks, saw that the landmark property was up for sale in 2005—with its gloriously kitschy 1962 neon sign still intact—he ignored the tales of urban warfare and asked his wife if she’d be interested in purchasing the property as an investment.

Police Officer Job Description, Career as a Police Officer, Salary, Employment

Education and Training High school plus training

Salary Median—$45,210 per year

Employment Outlook Good

Definition and Nature of the Work

Police officers protect the lives and property of citizens. They maintain order, catch lawbreakers, and work to prevent crimes. In small towns they perform many duties. Larger cities have a more structured division of responsibility. Police officers may patrol the streets on foot or in squad cars; control traffic; or work as detectives investigating crimes. At the police station officers may be assigned to work in the crime laboratory or the records department. All officers file reports of incidents, and many testify at trials and hearings.

Police officers are supervised by senior officers. The chain of command is modeled after that of the armed services. In larger cities sergeants, lieutenants, and captains direct the work of squads or companies of officers. Ranking officer generally report to police chiefs or commissioners. In small towns the chief of police may be the only ranking officer.

Education and Training Requirements

Many police departments require that applicants be high school graduates; an increasing number expect some college education. Applicants usually must be at least twenty-one years of age and U.S. citizens. In many communities, applicants must meet minimum requirements for height, weight, eyesight, and hearing.

Because most police departments fall under civil service regulations, applicants must pass written tests that measure their analytical skills. Rigorous physical examinations and background checks are also required. Senior officers screen applicants.

New recruits often participate in formal classroom training in police academies. After graduating they continue to train on the job with experienced officers for three to twelve months. In small communities there may be no formal training program. Officers are usually encouraged to continue their education by taking college courses in criminal justice.

Getting the Job

Those who want to be police officers must first take the civil service test. Many departments allow high school graduates and college students studying criminal justice to start out as cadets or trainees while still in their teens. If they meet all the requirements, cadets may be appointed to regular police work when they turn twenty-one.

Advancement Possibilities and Employment Outlook

For promotion to higher rank, officers must take civil service tests. Good work records and special honors help officers get ahead. Police officers who have investigation abilities may advance to detective. Other positions include sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and inspector.

The employment of police officers is expected to grow as fast the average for all jobs through 2014. Openings will depend on government funding and the number of experienced officers who retire or leave the profession. Competition for jobs will be stiff. The best opportunities will be found in urban areas.

Designing With Hardwood Floors

Hardwood floors are suited to both casual and formal environments; they feel at home with modern or traditional and will compliment the decor of both minimalist and eclectic designs. Hardwood can be classic, rock, jazz, country, or hip hop. Today’s State-of-the-art technology coupled with an almost limitless choice of stains, finishes, styles and designs makes hardwood flooring one of the most practical and versatile floor coverings available. Their beauty is enduring and like a fine wine, they mature with age.

Nature provides the inspiration when designing with hardwood floors. The abundance of natural hardwood species provides a plethora of wood grain structures, each unique and each matching a particular décor. Oak woods contain a lot of growth ring patterns and knots, and are best suited to traditional and rustic decors. However, adding a high gloss finish can make them elegant enough for any formal dining room. Woods such as Maple, Walnut and Birch contain very little graining and lend themselves well to contemporary and modern designs. \

The aesthetic appeal of hardwood is also influenced to a large extent by mineral streaking, the presence of knots and shade and color variation. These features are also used in the classification of hardwoods.

Clear – This grade of hardwood is free of defects though it may have minor imperfections. Flooring in this category tends to be very consistent with little mineral streaking and knots, also making it the most expensive grade.

Select – This grade is almost clear, but contains more natural characteristics such as knots and color variations.

Common grades (No. 1 and No. 2) have more markings than either clear or select and are often chosen because of these natural features and the character they bring to a room. No.1 Common has a variegated appearance, light and dark colors, knots, flags and worm holes. No.2 Common is rustic in appearance and will show all wood characteristics of the species. These grades have always been the least expensive, but the recent revival of the antique rustic look hasresulted in prices skyrocketing.

Lance Burton, Monte Carlo Splitting After 14 Years

Magician Lance Burton, Monte Carlo to split after 14 years despite recent contract extension

Citing "irreconcilable differences," illusionist Lance Burton said Monday he is ending his run at the Monte Carlo hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip after 14 years, well short of a six-year contract extension he signed last year.

His last show will be Sept. 4, hotel officials said.

Burton, 50, has performed at the Monte Carlo since the day it opened in 1996. On Monday, he compared the union to a marriage and the split to a divorce.

"People get married and get divorced every day, and a lot of times when people get divorced, they'll say it's 'irreconcilable differences,'" Burton told The Associated Press. "That's kind of what we have here. I think we've just grown apart, we have different philosophies, and we're going in different directions."

Burton declined to elaborate but said he and casino officials had different philosophies about how to put on a show.

"The question that I have to ask myself is, 'Do I stay in this relationship and potentially be very unhappy in the long run?' Or do we just say, 'You know what? It's time for us to move on,'" he said. "And that's what I decided to do."

Burton told the AP in June that he considered every option before signing the extension through 2015 but ultimately felt he had a few more shows in him.

Monte Carlo owner MGM Mirage did not immediately give a reason for Burton's departure.

Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino Review

Rio bills itself as a "carnival" atmosphere hotel, which means hectic, crowded, and noisy, and an apparent edict requiring the Most Scantily Clad Waitresses in Town to burst into song and dance in between delivering beers. The Masquerade Village is actually pretty pleasant, with a very high ceiling, but the older section's low ceilings seem to accentuate only how crowded the area is in both the number of people and the amount of stuff (slot machines, gaming tables, and so on). This party atmosphere, by the way, is strictly for adults; the hotel actively discourages guests from bringing children.

The hotel touts its room size. Every one is a "suite," which does not mean two separate rooms, but rather one large room with a sectional, corner sofa, and coffee table at one end. The dressing areas are certainly larger than average and feature a number of extra amenities, such as fridges (unusual for a Vegas hotel room) and small snacks. Windows, running the entire length of the room, are floor to ceiling, with a pretty impressive view of the Strip, Vegas, or the mountains (depending on which way you're facing). The furniture doesn't feel like hotel-room standard, but otherwise the decor is fairly bland.

The hotel's first-rate Carnival World Buffet and barbecue restaurant RUB are worth a visit. You might consider checking out the Wine Cellar Tasting Room, which bills itself as "the world's largest and most extensive collection of fine wines," and, hyperbole aside, it's certainly impressive and a must-do for any wine aficionado.

This Aladdin Hotel and Casino Las Vegas picture shows a newly renovated gaming area. Now called Planet Hollywood, the hotel has spent millions on the make-over. Brightly lit columns rise from floor to ceiling and walls with LED lights change neon colors. With 100,000 square feet of casino, 2,800 slot machines and over 80 table games, there's always something to do at this stylist hotel.

There are several choice eating spots at the Aladdin Hotel and Casino Las Vegas. Planet Dailies knows how to do burger and fries and is open 24/7. Another favorite is P.F. Chang's on the first floor. A fusion of Chinese and American cuisine in a contemporary setting. The Spice Market Buffet is also very popular and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Next to the V-Theatre you'll find La Salsa Cantina with its generous portions of Mexican food and the famous 'Margarita by the yard.'

In the center of the casino is a new round bar called the Heart Bar that's great for people watching. Waitresses wear sexy black leather go-go outfits. The sports book and the poker room are upstairs on the Mezzanine level. Here, you'll also find Stomp Out Loud performing in the new 1,500 seat showroom. If you've never seen Stomp, bring your earplugs. Its very loud (like the name) with athletic dancing and rhythmic drumming.

Tropicana Las Vegas Unveils Newly Designed Hotel Rooms and Luxury Suites

Tropicana Las Vegas announced today that it will unveil the first of its newly designed hotel rooms and luxury suites in the property’s 569- room Paradise Tower. The new rooms are part of the $165 million transformation of the property, designed to capture the sultry South Beach vibe that will be at the heart of the new Tropicana Las Vegas. The luxury suites will be opened on May 17th.

‘Best In Class’ Guest Rooms

This is the first completed major redesign at Tropicana Las Vegas since 1985. Tropicana Las Vegas will offer the newest hotel rooms in the city and the “best-in-class” hotel rooms in the mid-tier price range. Differing greatly from most of the traditional Las Vegas hotel rooms, Tropicana Las Vegas offers a bright, fresh, comfortable and casual setting accented by soft-colored furnishings. In lieu of heavy and dark drapery, white plantation shutters were selected to add abundant natural light. The room’s original white decorative ceiling and canvas artwork commissioned from famed artist Aldo Luongo further emphasizes the residential quality of the space.

“The objective is to create a place that has an ambiance and a glow that is irresistible to the majority of the Las Vegas visitors. In addition to changing and improving everything in our guests’ physical environment, we also plan to exceed our guests’ expectations in both service and amenities,” said Tom McCartney, president of Tropicana Las Vegas.

The spacious rooms will feature one king or two queen-size pillow top beds, 42” flat panel TV, workspace desk or chaise longue, iHome clock radio with a universal docking station, wireless internet, Kohler sink features, and curved shower rods. Rooms will range from 396-441 square feet.

Las Vegas Family Hotels

You might not think of Las Vegas when you are planning a family vacation, but it is worth considering. Although Las Vegas conjures images of late night card games at the casino or scantily dressed show girls on stage, there are now an amazing number of family friendly hotels and entertainment parks for kids to enjoy.

History

Historically, Las Vegas was an adult paradise. In the 1960's the Rat Pack and Wayne Newton dominated the night club scene and the city was primarily about gambling, dining, and shows as well as quickie marriages and divorces. In 1969, Elvis opened at the International Hotel and held court there for years. Building and investments imploded in Las Vegas in the 1980s, and today the area boasts that it is the largest metropolitan city in the U.S. founded in 20th century.

Considerations

Kids love the various themed hotels that Las Vegas offers such as the Excalibur, where they can imagine themselves as knights at King Arthur's round table or explore a great game area.
The Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino has four pools, including a wave pool and a 400-foot-long Lazy River. The hotel has several fast food restaurants and there is an arcade on site or Gameworks across the street by the mall.
Another fun hotel for children is the Circus Circus Hotel where you can count on reasonably priced rooms. There are plenty of free circus acts to entertain the kids as well as inexpensive food options. The Adventuredome Theme Park will keep everyone entertained for $24.95 per person for a whole day pass.
New York/New York Hotel and Casino has one of the largest game arcades in Las Vegas. It is located just across the street from the Excalibur, movie theaters and mall. They also have a roller coaster and a food court for quick meals.

Wynn Las Vegas Unveils Newly Renovated Rooms

Wynn Las Vegas continues to set the bar for luxury and excellence in Las Vegas and unveils the first completely renovated resort rooms at Wynn (Pictured above: The newly renovated Deluxe Resort King at Wynn Las Vegas – Photo credit: PRNewsFoto/Wynn Las Vegas, Barbara Kraft)

Designed by Roger Thomas, Executive Vice President of Design for Wynn Design and Development, the rooms feature rich new finishes–including wallpaper, carpets, chairs, couches and lamps–while maintaining the functionality, spaciousness, configuration and casually elegant residential quality that has become the hallmark of Wynn resorts. The renovation project at Wynn Las Vegas encompasses all guest rooms and suites and is slated to continue through early 2011.

“Wynn has been open for just over five years, and we felt is was time to do more than just refresh the rooms, but to really give them a completely different feel,” said Wynn Las Vegas and Encore President Andrew Pascal. “The new rooms are fresh and crisp and light; they are incredibly uplifting.”

Thomas, who has designed guest rooms for Steve Wynn for 30 years, adds, “While we have always designed our guest accommodations to be residential, this line is so luxurious and so beautiful, I could take it home with me! This is the way I live.”

Palms Las Vegas Casino Resort

The combined power of George Maloof, Hugh Hefner, and MTV jump-started the Palms Casino Resort into the world of youthful, beautiful people shortly after it opened in 2001.

Although not technically on the Strip, the Palms is close enough to be a part of the action, and a big draw all on its own. Some of it's more unique features are: the only hotel suite in the world equipped with a basketball court, a full-featured recording studio, the only Playboy Club in the world, the largest IMAX screen in the city, the annual Cinevegas film festival, and the annual UFC finale. It's a good place to stay and spot celebrities for a reasonable price. Rooms can go as low as $99 per night on the weekdays.

Entertainment and Nightlife

First things first. The Palms is famous for clubs, lookers, and one hell of a pool party. While still a magnet for young people and among the top nightspots in Las Vegas, the nightlife at the Palms has taken second or third place to some of the other, newer venues in town. Here's the rundown:

Moon: The future-cool midsized nightclub at the Palms is equipped with a ceiling that grinds open, revealing the stars. It's a fun place to party if you want the thrill of authentic Vegas nightlife. It's expensive... around $40 on weekends and still $20 on weekdays, but admission to Moon also buys you admission to...

The Playboy Club: Expect to see that bunny plastered on to every surface it can be plastered on to. The N9Ne Group does not want you to forget the official brand. It's a pleasant experience. While Moon is a high-energy, classic dance club, the Playboy Club is more similiar to a casino floor. High-limit blackjack tables and and a roulette wheel costing $25 per spin provide diversions, and the attention to detail in every aspect of design is impressive for those willing to pay attention. Being the Playboy Club, the chances are high of finding groups of single-minded guys, but the connection to Moon keeps the ratio from getting out of hand.

Want to get married Vegas-style? Visit Pioneer Square

Not everyone dreams of a white wedding.

Some people like feather boas and mini-skirts. And Elvis Presley -- lots of Elvis Presley.

Those are the people who often make a beeline for Las Vegas. They say their vows in little chapels decked out with big lights, then they hit the town.

Now, that town can be Seattle.

Shotgun Ceremonies, a Vegas-style wedding destination, opened last month in Pioneer Square.

Owners Bronwen Stevenson and Sara Qureshi call their storefront chapel an alternative to expensive, catered events that take months of planning.

"I guess I never bought into the big wedding, spend a lot of money," said Stevenson, who had her second wedding in a Vegas chapel. "I was more about the marriage."

She and Qureshi are both credentialed officiants; certificates saying as much are displayed on a wall next to large-as-life posters of Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe.

They come to work in cowboy boots, tulle tutus and bustiers, driving home the point that this isn't where you go for a traditional wedding.

But for an unconventional wedding? This could be the place.

The idea was dreamed up two years ago, when Stevenson and Qureshi were bored at work.

"We met at a horrible staffing job that we hated a lot," Stevenson said. "We spent our days trying to figure out what we wanted to be when grew up."

There was an electric cigarette company, then a martial-arts apparel business.

But in the back of their minds, the duo had another plan.

Luxor Hotel & Casino

The distinctive black glass pyramid at the south end of The Strip known as the Luxor shines the world's strongest light beam into the Las Vegas sky every night. The hotel is named for the ancient Egyptian capital city formerly known as Thebes. But the casino's interior is undergoing renovations to cast a more modern, less Egyptian, feel to the resort.

Hotel rooms line the outside of the sloping pyramid while "inclinators" carry guests up and down. The Las Vegas branch of LA nightclub LAX has attracted a younger, hip crowd to the Luxor. At 26,000 square feet, it's not quite as big as Pure at Caesars Palace, but still measures up as one of the largest Las Vegas nightclubs, sprawling out over two floors.

Dining options range from Asian specialties at Fusia, or more meaty portions at Luxor Steakhouse. A hipper option is Company American Bistro, the third such restaurant in Las Vegas opened by Pure Management Group.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Review (Las Vegas, Nevada)

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is one of the most happening and busy casinos in Las Vegas, as it should be since it caters to a younger crowd than most others that are actually on the strip.

The Hard Rock casino floor is small compared to other venues in the city. It is dimly lit and the music is always blasting.

Service on the floor is almost absent. If you can get the attention of a server, drinks take up to twenty minutes to get to you, and often it is the wrong drink!

I had the opportunity to see Bill Mahr at the 'Joint' inside the Hard Rock Casino. I am a very big fan of Bill Mahr. I rarely miss an opportunity to catch his show on HBO and when I cannot catch it live, I do the DVR thing.

The 'Joint', in the Hard Rock, has folding chair seating like old-style movie theatres; each chair is bound to the next with a plastic retainer to keep them together. There was not a conservative to be found in the audience and those attending appeared to be up on current events.

The show itself was rather disappointing, not because it was bad, but because the material was hackneyed. Bill came onstage like a true somebody, twenty minutes late starting the show. I found it unprofessional to have to wait for the talent after paying such high prices for the tickets. He could have at least started on time. Bill's material, although insightful, was old and worn. Mose of his jokes were ones he used on his weekly show. The show played as a rehashing of stale jokes with an exceptional delivery. The Hard Rock crowd was overall pleased with his performance with the exception of Bill's bantering back and forth with someone in the audience about smoking pot that went on for about five minutes.

Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino – Las Vegas

What to expect at the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino:

An older hotel that has a loyal following. The casino at the Imperial Palace is set back away from the strip but you can enter from a front door right on Las Vegas Blvd. where it seems that someone is always trying to give you something. Located across the street from Caesars Palace and sandwiched between the Flamingo and Harrah's this is a great location if you want to be near the major resorts but want to pay a bit less for a room.

hat you might like at the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino:

The location is nice as is the auto collection. The lower limit tables even on the weekends make this casino a good place to try your super system at cards. The dealertainers at the Imperial Palace will make you laugh as you lose your money.

What you might not like at the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino:

The awkward entrance puts people off and many never venture into the Imperial Palace. Some do not enjoy walking along the cab drivers waiting for a fare while others avoid the relentless people up front trying to give you a coupon book or a free photo. If you need a pool you might be discouraged by their tiny slab of concrete with a hole in it. Also, look up and you can see the people on their tiny balconies gawking at you.

Famous Las Vegas Hotels

Gangster Bugsy Siegel walked into Glitter Gulch in a sleepy little Nevada community and saw a few hotels. None of the hotels were famous, but what began as gleam in Bugsy's greedy mobster eyes would soon become one of the most famous hotels in the world. Several of the accommodations sprung up around those few early hotels have also come to enjoy fame or infamy for one reason or another as the Las Vegas Strip has become one of the most visited areas in the world.
  • Flamingo Hotel

Contrary to myth, the Flamingo was not the first hotel in Las Vegas. The Flamingo that you can check into today is not the actual Flamingo that was built as a result of Bugsy Siegel's dream, but the fame remains the same. Benjamin Siegel was gunned down before that original Flamingo was fully constructed, but its fame rests on it being the hotel that sparked every enormous casino-based hotel to follow. Today's Flamingo Hotel offers a large fitness center stocked with state-of-the-art equipment, a full service spa, the adults-only Go Pool, a wildlife habitat and a casino with 1,600 slot machines and 70 gaming tables. Flamingo Hotel 3555 Las Vegas Blvd. S. Las Vegas, NV 89109 888-02-9929 flamingolasvegas.com

Travel information: Las Vegas fast facts A-Z

Everything from embassies to emergency services, customs to currency

Addresses

Written addresses follow the standard US format. The room and/or suite number usually appears after the street address (where applicable), followed by the city name and the zip code. Note that Las Vegas Boulevard South is the official name of the Strip.

Age restrictions

Las Vegas is a carefree city of hedonism and wild abandon, but only if you’re old enough.

Admission to nude clubs: 18 (except Palomino)
Admission to topless clubs: 21
Buying/drinking alcohol: 21
Driving: 16
Gambling: 21
Marriage: 16 (with parental consent) or 18 (without)
Sex: 16 (heterosexual) or 18 (homosexual)

Attitude & etiquette

As a tourist city, Vegas is as formal or informal as you want it to be. During the warmer months, shorts and T-shirts are accepted wear along the Strip as well as on the gaming floors of most casinos, though dressing up to a minimum of smart-casual has become the norm. Some lounges and nightclubs have dress codes (sports shoes, T-shirts and jeans may be prohibited), and dining in some high-end restaurants can be formal.

Business

The climate and favourable tax structure have helped Nevada attract hundreds of companies to the city. But a stronger input into the Vegas economy comes from the six million business travellers who come to town each year for one of roughly 24,000 conventions. As a result, most major resorts offer excellent business services: faxing, copying and shipping services are standard; phone and computer hire is common, as are the presence of conference rooms; and in-room high-speed internet access is growing in popularity.

Sip N' Spa: QUA Baths & Spa at Caesars Palace Las Vegas

QUA Baths & Spa at Caesars Palace Las Vegas is bringing new meaning to "reading the tea leaves" with their unique tea sommelier program. Every therapist at the spa is required to undergo a special training program, conducted over a four-month period, each focused on a different type of tea.

"Tea is the number two consumed beverage in the world," said Chrystal King, QUA Spa Director. "We think of this program as ... another form of education for our guests."

Trainings focus on the practical - steeping times, proper water temperatures, and properties - as well as the historical background to each tea and the proper tea for certain conditions. At least twice yearly, therapists undergo updates to the treatments as new teas are added to the program.

Co-branded with Art of Tea, the spa offers 22 unique blends in categories like black, white, green and oolong to pair with the 72 different treatments on their spa menu. Some treatments, like the spa's "Hourglass" signature service, aren't branded with a specific tea, but therapists consult clients to design both a treatment program and a tea that will pair well with client's specific requests.
