Top Medical Coding Organizations

The medical records field is growing rapidly due to federal requirements set forth in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (also known as HIPAA). One part of this system is medical coding. Coders translate health information into alphanumeric codes that are used for payment reimbursement and data collection.

Because of the need for federal compliance, many employers prefer to hire coders with specialized training and certification. Below are the top coding organizations in the United States that provide education and certification credentials.

  • American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
  • American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)

Medical Coding Education

Education expectations vary by employer. Some may require at least an associate's degree in health information and specialized certification. Others will accept certification only, especially if the applicant has coding or medical office experience.

Both AAPC and AHIMA have online courses available. As these organizations also provide the most sought after certification credentials by employers, some students prefer this option to ensure they're getting proper instruction. The AHIMA website also has a listing of approved online and on-campus schools that have coding programs and heath information management degrees which include coding as part of their curriculum.

Certification Credentials for Coders

While it's not yet legally required that coders are certified, many employers would rather hire workers that have proven experience or credentials. Both organizations offer coding certification exams for a range of working environments and specialties. The AAPC offers the CPC series and three other types explained here:

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC): For physician-service based coding including diagnosis and procedures.
  • Certified Professional Coder - Outpatient Hospital (CPC-H): This credential is for those who work in outpatient hospital services such as an in-house billing and coding department or ambulatory surgical center.
  • Certified Professional Coder - Payer (CPC-P): This certification focuses on coding after it has been submitted to the payer.
  • Certified Interventional Radiology Cardiovascular Coder (CIRCC): For coders proficient in this field including diagnosis and surgical procedures.
  • Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA): This credential is for auditing other coding work to make sure it is in compliance with medical and legal requirements.
  • Specialty: For coders who want to prove their skills in a certain specialty.

The Four-Legged Stool

Dear Business-Builder,

Years ago, I was given a challenge by a client of mine. They asked me to help them create stronger direct-mail advertising packages than those being used by their main competitor.

Problem was, there didn’t seem to be anything wrong with the packages my client was using. They had good products. And they were well-known in the industry for writing highly effective advertising copy to sell those products.

In fact, they were the second most successful direct marketers of investment newsletters in the world at that time. Their competitor was somehow beating them. But neither they nor I knew why.

A wiser man than I would have demurred on the spot. They wouldn’t have thought less of me had I said, "I don’t think I can help you with that."

But the feather they were offering to put in my cap was a big one: I could be the genius that made them number one. Ego gratification, they knew, was my Achilles heel. I told them I would do it.

And so I did.

It took me about six months of research and testing to find a formula that worked. And that formula, when implemented, brought us quickly and permanently into the number one position.

What I discovered was that my client’s competitor was using a four-part strategy to ensure that their packages were as strong as they could possibly be. I’m not even sure if they were conscious of it, but every one of their packages had these four elements:

  1. An emotionally compelling idea – one big, unifying concept that pulls the sales argument together and (usually) expresses the product’s USP (unique selling proposition).
  2. A promise of irresistible benefits – how the product will help the prospect.
  3. Proof of every claim made in the package.
  4. Loads of credibility – for the product, the guru behind it, and the company selling the product.

The Best Winter Bike Gloves

What To Look For

Winter bike gloves should protect your hands from the elements during harsh winter temperatures. However, the gloves also have to be flexible enough to provide a comfortable and safe grip on the handle bars. Flexible, warm gloves can be hard to find. Gloves made with fleece insulation often provide better warmth. If you bike in the rain, then look for waterproofing features. All gloves should fit close around the fingers, unless they are lobster claw style, and tight around the wrists. Bike Radar.com recommends the Specialized Radiant gloves for the best insulated gloves. Bike Radar recommends the Altura Night Visions gloves for warmer winter days because of their reflective pads, comfort and waterproof features. Bicycling Magazine recommends the P.R.O. Lobster Wind Mitt for winter biking because of its flexibility. This glove can convert from a lobster style glove to a five-fingered glove. It also provides insulation, a comfortable fit and waterproofing.

Common Pitfalls

Most people think that in the winter gloves should be thick and bulky to provide the necessary insulation. This is not the case. Usually gloves made of quality materials that fit closely around the hands provide better all-around warmth. Choose a glove based on your riding style. Waterproof gloves are not necessary for dry rides. If you do not use all fingers individually during a ride, then a lobster claw glove will probably suit your needs better. Usually more expensive gloves will offer more features, but only choose a glove that has features you will actually use. Make sure to buy women's gloves if you are a women and men's if you are a man. The fit is different enough to change the performance of the glove.

Where To Buy

Find winter biking gloves at sporting equipment stores throughout the United States. Home supply stores, such as Wal-Mart and Target may also carry some brands of winter bike gloves. However, the best place to find winter gloves is at a bike or sports store. REI offers a large selection of men and women's biking gloves. They offer many top bands including Giro, Novara, Fox and Pearl Izumi. Dick's Sporting Goods also offers a wide variety of gloves for men, women and children. These stores have both online and in-store locations.

Exam tables and chairs have to be comfortable for patients and doctors as well. They have to have the right design in order for the doctor to properly treat the patient. The quality of the exam table and other medical equipment must be strong and sturdy enough so that it will last longer and so that changing medical equipment will not be needed as often. There are different exam tables that are created for different purposes.

Here are some of the common exam table designs for the hospital:

  1. Surgical table  or operating table – Some of the most well known brands for surgical tables are Berchtold, Skyton and Shampaine. Surgical tables have an adjustable head so that it can be customized to fit the length of the patient. The sides of the table are made with a stainless steel base. The sections of the table are also removable to accommodate the needs of the doctor if there are operations in hard to reach areas of the body.
  2. Stirrups table – This hospital table is used for examining patients that have problems in the genital area or in the abdominal area. Most stirrup tables have compartments at the bottom of the table to maximize the space in the area. The covers for the table are made with seamless upholstery so that it is easier to be cleaned. The common dimensions for this type of table are: height – 32”, length – 57.5” (extendable) and width – 26.5”.
  3. Treatment table – One of the most well known brands for manufacturing a treatment table is Athlegen. Their treatment table can be customized to fit your taste. You can specify the dimensions used. They build treatment tables that cater to the needs of both the doctor and the patient. Athlegen medical equipment is built to last for a long time.

Thermage for Acne

Overview

There are a growing number of innovative treatment options for skin conditions, including acne. In addition to conventional methods such as antibiotics and topical creams, acne sufferers can turn to more high-tech remedies such as the FDA-approved procedure known as Thermage. Thermage® is a registered trademark of Thermage Inc. of Hayward, California.

Considerations

Thermage acne treatment is a non-invasive procedure that uses radio frequency technology. Although some Thermage patients have reported great results from this procedure, others say there was little if any noticeable improvement.

Effects

Thermage uses deep, uniform heating that reaches the innermost layers of the skin while guarding the outer layers with a cooling effect. This penetrating heat is designed to stimulate collagen, rejuvenate facial contours and have a tightening effect in the deeper layers of the skin. This can eventually lead to smoother, healthier skin and a softening of acne scars.

Procedure

As you prepare for Thermage, a paper transfer is used to reference the areas that require treatment. This grid helps ensure that problem areas receive more passes of the thermage device than healthier areas. You may also be given a local anesthetic to prevent any minor discomfort. The Thermage acne procedure can take up to two hours. There is no down time involved, so you're able to resume normal activities immediately.

Precautions

The results of Thermage depend to a certain extent on the competency of the operator. Therefore, the outcome of the treatment can be unpredictable. There is also the possibility of burning, discoloration and the formation of permanent hard spots on the skin.

Prescription Safety Glasses

Safety glasses are an important part of work health and safety, especially for people working with tools. Eye safety can be overlooked and it can be really dangerous in some work places. Prescription safety glasses are a really important piece of equipment. You can protect your eyes with a good pair of them. If you work with tools such as power tools, saws, axes or any kind of welding, then you really need to consider getting a pair of safety glasses. If you are working at home or in the workplace they are an essential piece of equipment. You can easily get some pretty hazardous particles flying into your face, and if they get into your eyes they can cause a lot of damage.

These style glasses aren’t the same as regular glasses; they have much larger and thicker frames. The lenses on safety glasses are much stronger than normal glasses and they are very impact resistant. They will protect your eyes a lot better. There is a standard that needs to be set for safety glasses to be able to go on the market. The lenses need to pass a drop ball test which means that a ball is dropped on it from a reasonable height and if it doesn’t break then it passes the test and can be put on the market. The frames are also heat resistant, and will protect from chemical splashes. They are made from polycarbonate lenses, which are stronger and more durable and much more impact resistant.

Erasing Tattoos, Out of Regret or for a New Canvas

Just a year ago, Ms. Brannigan, 24, who holds up Case No. 24 as one of the models on the NBC game show “Deal or No Deal,” had been full of hope when she and her fiancé had each other’s names tattooed across their inner wrists.

But now, when she looks at the letters — P-A-T-R-I-C-K — she is reminded of the failed relationship.

For help, she turned to Dr. Tattoff, a chain of tattoo removal stores where nurses use lasers in a series of treatments to break down tattoo pigments. Dr. Tattoff is part of a growing industry catering to people who may not have thought about the implications of “forever” the first time around.

Removing tattoos is costly, uncomfortable and time-consuming, but the affinity for body art is so strong that some people say they do it to clear space to tattoo all over again.

Many dermatologists specialize in laser tattoo removal, and some laser hair-removal centers are adding services. In California, there are removal centers like Dr. Tattoff, Tat2BeGone and Tattoo MD.

Most of Dr. Tattoff’s clients are women ages 25 to 35, said James Morel, the chief executive of the company, which has given more than 13,000 tattoo laser treatments since opening here in 2004. “Maybe women are getting more tattoos than they used to,” Mr. Morel said, “or maybe they just have a higher level of tattoo regret than men.”

On the horizon is a development that could change the very nature of tattooing: a type of ink encapsulated in beads and designed to break up after one treatment with a special laser.

Folding Garment Tote Bag

With travel becoming increasingly difficult in terms of how much luggage you can take with you and worries about the airline losing it, combination bags seem to be the best way to go, and for a short trip, a folding garment tote bag is ideal. If you pack carefully, you can take your suits and good dresses, as well as shoes and sundries, all in one handy bag.

Using a Folding Garment Tote Bag

The classic garment bag has been beloved by business travelers everywhere, because it has a decent capacity and will keep your suits, shirts and coats wrinkle-free. This means that when you arrive at your hotel, you can change quickly and be ready for your meeting. Airlines traditionally hang garment bags in the plane, so you don't have to check anything, saving time and trouble.

However, the bags can be unwieldy to carry. Additionally, planes are cutting back on services which, combined with more people traveling, makes it more likely you have to check a bag, and garment bags are impractical to check. The solution is a folding garment tote bag, which allows you to lay your clothes in the same as any other garment bag, but then fold the bag into an easier to manage tote. The only disadvantage is that, depending on the fabric of the outfit you've packed, you may end up with a crease at the folding point. Hopefully, it will be nothing an hour or two of hanging won't fix.

Styles of Folding Garment Tote Bags

Tri-Fold

The folding garment bags are based on the same style as traditional garment bags. One bag consumers seem to like is the Wally Tri-Fold Garment Tote. Made of denier polyester, the bag is durable, lightweight and water repellent. It is long enough to allow for the various lengths of men's and women's clothing. You can use your own hangers, making for convenient packing. A patented lock at the top secures the hangers, thus preventing slippage. You can pack six items, perfect for the average trip, and there are two additional pockets for shoes and accessories. There is a full length center zipper and the handles fasten via Velcro, making for easy carrying. Best of all, once folded, the bag easily fits in an overhead compartment.

Canvas

If you want something sturdier, the Cordura Garment Bag by Buckstitch is made of their versatile canvas. The bag is on the pricier side, but it will last a long time and sports a convenient handle and adjustable shoulder strap. There is a hook at the top so that you can hang the bag either in your car or hotel closet. The canvas comes in fourteen colors, so you are guaranteed something eye-popping that you like. It is, however, only 40 inches long, so measure your clothes before you make your purchase.

Return of the White Kitchen

The white kitchen was extremely popular for about ten to fifteen years way back in the nineties and eighties. However, in the years since the turn of the millennium, the white kitchen fell out of favor and took a decidedly back seat to stained wood. Yet the versatility of a white kitchen with it’s clean appeal and soothing look has never really gone away. Instead, it is making a return with some new twists that make it look fresher, up to date and more appealing than ever.

White vs. white

The first place to change in the white kitchen is the kind of white used on the cabinets. White is no longer just white. Now, white cabinets range in whiteness from bright white to antiqued white. Both look fresh and current, but with a different appeal. If the bright white kitchen appeals to you, then the whiteness, just like it was in the eighties and nineties, is the key. Sheer white cabinets look especially good in vintage style kitchens. White cabinets with Craftsman style frames look beautiful in bright white. Cabinets with old fashioned cup style drawer pulls make a beautiful pairing. Add the nostalgia of white marble countertops and you have a winning combination.

To keep the kitchen extra vintage-looking, have appliances such as the dishwasher and refrigerator dressed with cabinet doors and this will make them blend into the kitchen and not detract from the look. But if a fresher, more current style is what you’re after, add shiny stainless appliances and your kitchen will be up-to-the-moment gorgeous with a slight contemporary feel. It’s this pairing of stainless with white that creates a nice contrast of color with sparkle. Having stainless appliances with white cabinets makes the white kitchen up to date versus the monochromatic – and dated — look of white cabinets with white appliances. If you have a white kitchen in need of updating, adding new stainless appliance might be all it takes to bring your kitchen out of the nineties and eighties and into the 2000’s.

Ten Steps to Becoming an Interior Decorator

Read full aticle here....

If you are thinking about becoming an interior decorator, read on -- below are ten steps for you to consider when pursuing the interior decorating career.

1. Train Your Eye
If you are thinking about a career as an interior decorator, you may already have a good sense of design style and the ability to single out areas of improvement in any space you see. However, even the most innately talented decorators need to “train their eye” to recognize the tastes of different clients and to keep abreast of changing industry trends. There are many easy and fun ways to do it: flip through the pages of design or architecture magazines; attend open houses in wealthy neighborhoods; hang out in art galleries, historic homes, and furniture galleries; or browse the web sites of interior decorating and design professional associations.

2. Learn the Tools of the Trade
Although interior decorators are not subject to formal education requirements like their peers in interior design, clients and employers expect them to be knowledgeable about decorating fundamentals such as space planning; correct use of color, textures, fabrics, accessories, and lighting; different styles of furniture and decorating (such as Southwestern or green design); and design elements like window treatments and wall coverings. Much of this knowledge can be obtained through self-study; however, the fastest and most comprehensive method is taking an interior design course. In addition, formal training gives you and your future clients more confidence in your abilities.

3. Practice at Home
You know the old saying: Practice makes perfect. It’s important to have some hands-on decorating experience before you start tinkering with other people’s properties. Most interior decorators use their own homes to get this much-needed early experience. Whether you live in a studio apartment or a three-story house, all you need is one room to play around with and try out new styles. See how a new color of paint or just rearranging the furniture creates an entirely new look for your living environment. Even experienced decorators often use their homes as “labs” to test out concepts before suggesting them to clients.

4. Volunteer Your Services to Friends and Family
Another great way to hone your skills is by offering to decorate the homes or offices of your friends and family. Chances are they’re always asking you for advice already. Why not take it to the next level and let them be your first (non-paying!) clients? Go through the whole decorating process like you would with real customers. Have them fill out a decorating questionnaire, present them a proposal, modify your ideas to suit their personal tastes, agree on a schedule and budget, and get to work! It’s excellent practice for dealing with clients, though your clients may not be as forgiving as your loved ones.

5. Prepare a Portfolio
When you start looking for work, the first thing clients and decorating firms will ask for is your portfolio – a collection of samples of your best work, plus any supporting documents that speak of your talent (letters of recommendation, awards, certificates, etc.). In addition to about 15-20 “before and after” photos of interiors you have worked on, you should include “design boards” that display some of your preferred materials like fabrics, flooring, and wallpaper. Even if you have no formal work experience, you can put together a portfolio showing projects you’ve done for yourself or friends or assignments you completed during your training.

As a cookbook author, I like to think that I spend most of my time dreaming up, and then perfecting, delicious recipes: silky pasta doughs, succulent roasts, beautiful tarts.

In reality, most of my time is spent at the kitchen sink, scrubbing roasting pans, washing out the food processor and rinsing knives and prep bowls.

The 16-by-19-by-9-inch white porcelain basin is large enough to fit my big roasting pan, if not my baking sheets. Next to it is a small, shallow prep sink to capture vegetable peelings and other debris. This sounds convenient, but that prep sink is the bane of my kitchen existence. It's too small to be practical, and I am forever trying to maneuver my cutting boards and platters on an awkward angle so that I can scrape peelings and scraps into it. Usually I end up using it as a place to drain clean pots and utensils.

"We call those spittoon sinks," jokes J. Paul Lobkovich of Lobkovich Kitchen Design in Tysons Corner. Popular during the 1980s and early 1990s, those shallow ancillary scrap sinks have fallen out of favor.

"It's fair to say we've learned our lesson from those small sinks," Lobkovich says. "Now we're doing a lot of big, rectangular cleanup sinks in one area of the kitchen, and a smaller -- but not cramped -- prep sink in another area."

One thing is certain, say Lobkovich and other kitchen designers: Customers are paying more attention than ever to their kitchen sinks. It used to be that sinks ranked far behind other appliances and features (the range, the oven, the cabinets and countertops) on the list of priorities.

"These days, people are a lot more specific about what they want" with their sinks, says Gary Lancaster, president of AK Metal Fabricators in Alexandria, which makes custom stainless-steel sinks. And mostly what customers want, he says, is big. "People just want to fill the cabinet up. If they've got a 30-inch cabinet, they want a 29-inch sink. If they're serious cooks, they want to be able to fit their commercial-size sheet pans in their sink. If they like to entertain, they want to be able to stack all the dishes in their sink and not have to look at them."

Interbank Forex Market

In this article we will see that it is and how the Interbank Forex market. Before reading further, I recommend reading the series of articles on the operation of the broker, if not all three at least the following two:

The foreign exchange market, as we all know as forex, is the world’s largest market with a distinctive feature to other financial markets: decentralization. In centralized markets, such as the New York Stock Exchange, every transaction is recorded with the execution price and volume traded and all operations can be traced. In the forex market, with its decentralization characteristic, there is no such central record of transactions on the contrary, each market maker registered their own operations and this information is his property.

The primary market makers in the foreign exchange market are the big global banks, which are primarily those generated by supply and demand prices with spread included. These primary market makers are constantly working each other, either on its own behalf or on behalf of their clients, hence their transactions are known as the interbank market.

In the interbank market exists, as in any other market, competition among participants. This competition results in a narrower spreads and price range. From here is where the brokers get the quoted price and where the brokers send their operations when they needed. If you wonder why you did not operate directly in the interbank market, skipping the spread of the brokers I regret to say that mere mortals are not allowed to, unless you have millions of dollars, if not billions, dedicated to foreign exchange as they the largest investment funds and multinational corporations.

The prices in the interbank market

Of the more than $ 3 trillion traded daily in Forex, most transactions will take you 10 banks, including Deutsche Bank, UBS SA (formerly known as Union Bank of Switzerland), Citigroup and HSBC (Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation).

Without going into the structure of each bank, as private entities, may differ from each other, say that each has a foreign exchange trading department. This department is responsible for setting prices that the bank will use in offering its customers always compensating for assuming the risk on transactions that may come to perform with other banks. Similar to what can exist on a broker, albeit on a much larger scale, the foreign trade department has a bargaining table (the famous trading desk) responsible for taking orders from customers.

The negotiating table making the quoted price marked by the department, and this passes to the customer finally decides whether the operation performed at the price offered. This is very common process against it may seem though there is online trading for most large customers, who can operate million in a single transaction, they want to get a good deal and can get that deal directly with negotiating table rather than using the trading platform. In addition, trading platforms usually have a limit on the size of each transaction because the bank will always want to make sure you can assume the operation.

Shipping Container Tips to Ensure a Safe Delivery

Shipping products within your national borders or around the world requires careful planning to ensure a safe and prompt delivery. Whether shipping items for your company or for personal reasons, it's important to choose the right shipping container. The right shipping container can save you time and money as well as protect your goods.

Shipping containers come in many shapes and sizes, and should be chosen according to the size, weight, and type of items being shipped. Also consider the sensitivity of your products; liquid, frozen, dry, and solid products all require certain types of shipping containers.

Identify Your Company's Shipping Needs

Many containers are designed for specific industrial needs. For example, the flat-rack shipping container or platform container has all sides open and is designed to ship heavy machinery. Containers with an open-top design are made to carry heavy, oversized cargo or bulk cargo items such as grain, coal, steel pellets, or sand. Dry van containers are completely enclosed and weatherproof. They come in various sizes. A side-door container has a rear door and a minimum of one door on the side.

The auto rack container is a railroad rolling stock container for shipping automobiles. Tank containers are large, metal containers used to ship liquid goods. There are gas bottles to transport gas, which are shaped like cylinders. A swapbody container had adjustable support legs. Goods that need to be kept frozen or refrigerated can be shipped in containers with refrigeration.

Determine how your items should be packaged and delivered for safe keeping and affordability. Also consider how easily and quickly the items can be loaded and unloaded. Some shipping containers will be easier to use than others depending on your loading dock setup.

Cargo containers might be available through the shipping company you use. Some companies will rent or lease containers, or even allow you to share the expense and space in one large container with another customer. There are also vendors that specialize in cargo containers such as BSL Containers, Cobra, On-Site Storage, Charleston Marine, UBH International, SCF, and many others.

This makes it easier for you and your family to get around at night and lessens the chance of that occasional slip which can sometimes be so painful.

Post Lights and Lamps

The traditional post lamp which sits on top of a post on your patio or deck is now available as a solar light and there are new close fitting solar powered post lights which also fit on top of the post which create an upward light without you even knowing that they are there. These are very effective in giving a special and unusual lighting effect.

The South Beach Diet Review

What You Should Know

The South Beach Diet is an eating plan that consists of three phases and that aims to assist dieters with the process of losing weight. This diet program focuses on minimizing carbohydrates and focusing more on protein-rich lean meats, along with some grains, vegetables and fruits. Initially The South Beach Diet rules out most heavy carb foods like pasta and potatoes, but a greater variety of foods are acceptable after a couple weeks have passed. The South Beach Diet endeavors to help dieters hit their “target weight” and then allows them to eat a little more freely. The purpose of pulling out carbs for the first couple weeks has to do with removing the body’s habitual desire for these foods.

With The South Beach Diet, carbohydrates in particular are looked at in a somewhat negative way. The official website claims that most “unhealthy processed carbs” are digested too fast, which can result in the individual’s insulin levels rising. This can alert the body to store fat and desire more “unhealthy foods.” Unlike many diet plans currently offered, The South Beach Diet is not a supplement or diet pill. This program actually consists of preplanned meals that are frozen and simply go in the microwave. However, The South Beach Diet additionally offers “healthy” recipes if you choose to make the meals yourself. This diet program is suited for both men and women, and claims to allow dieters to enjoy a vast array of foods while they lose unwanted weight.

Las Vegas' Legendary Stardust Bites The Dust

The excitement of the implosion is over and now the massive clean-up effort begins bfore the old Stardust property is turned into the $4 billion Echelon resort.

The legendary Stardust hotel tower on the Las Vegas Strip was brought down by implosion early Tuesday morning.

There was a hail of fireworks before the 2:34 a.m. implosion.  At 32 stories, it was the tallest structure to ever be imploded on the Las Vegas Strip.

It took 428 pounds of explosives to bring down the tower and less than 10 seconds for the building to fall. The final result was 170,000 tons of debris and a lot of dust.

The Stardust closed in November of 2006 after 48 years on the Las Vegas Strip. It will be replaced by a multi-billion-dollar resort called Echelon Place.

In recent days, many people have come by the Stardust to say goodbye -- from longtime employees to patrons.

It was a final farewell to yet another part of old Vegas, an end of an era.

It was one of Las Vegas' most iconic casinos. The bright lights of the Stardust glowed on the Strip for nearly 50 years.

Longtime patron Bill Rabatin hates to see the Stardust go. He remembers those days and nights in the poker room. "It was great. Good food, good service. We have been [there] many, many times, and we're going to miss the place."

The Stardust is rich with history.

  • It opened in 1958 at the beginning of the space age complete with rockets catering to middle class America.
  • More than 19 million people saw the Lido de Paris extravaganza over five decades.
  • Boxing legend Muhammad Ali trained there.
  • Elvis would come in with his entourage.
  • Ed Sullivan broadcast his show from the Stardust on CBS in 1962.
  • Siegfried and Roy had a run in the Stardust showroom.
  • And in the early '60s, the Stardust Invitational drew national attention in the old rotunda of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Eating in the Zone--A Revolutionary Diet Choice

One of the most revolutionary diet ideas to come along is something called the Zone, which was originated by Barry Sears, Ph.D. The Zone is based on the idea that we should return to the diets of ancient peoples--diets which stress fruits, vegetables, and meat. The diet does not deny people carbohydrates, but simply limits their use. Dieters are encouraged to sharply curtail their intake of pasta and potatoes. The Zone works according to a formula of 40/30/30, meaning 40 percent carbohydrates, 30 percent fat, and 30 percent protein.

There is a physiological basis to the Zone. Dr. Sears developed the diet in an effort to limit the amount of insulin in the body. This is because a large amount of insulin can lead to a build up of fat, causing obesity and other medical problems. People on the diet are encouraged to obtain their carbohydrates from fruits and vegetables and their fat from olive oil and other monounsaturated fats.

The biggest advantage to the Zone diet is that it can lead to significant weight loss. It is also healthier than some diets, since it eliminates non-nutritious carbohydrates and emphasizes fruits and vegetables. The diet encourages people to eat often--at least every five hours. It is also a low-calorie diet; the typical female dieter will consume only about 1300 calories at most following the Zone. Another positive aspect of the Zone is that it discourages consumption of junk food, which may be the basis of much weight gain.

Some dieticians heartily endorse the Zone, while others dismiss it as being too difficult to follow. The diet can also be costly, because of its heavy reliance on protein products. In addition, some critics see the Zone as being too complex, forcing dieters to spend too much time trying to do various calculations.

Las Vegas Hilton Review

It's easy for us to overlook this dinosaur -- look, we even called it a dinosaur. Totally unfair. It's one of the last of the dying breed of old Vegas hotels, but unlike many of its peers, it's still offering fine accommodations and even a bit more than that. A good place for adults looking for Vegas fun. The overall vibe is still old-school Vegas, with an old-fashioned glitzy casino that is small enough to navigate without a GPS device. Consider it even if you aren't an old-timer, and don't be put off by the distance from the Strip; the monorail stops here, making access easier than ever. When you consider that on nights when you can't touch a room on the Strip for less than $175, the Hilton will put you in a nice room with plenty of marble and clean, well-maintained furnishings for a decent price, it seems silly to not make the Hilton a top choice. There are quite a few solidly good restaurants, too. Those very same facilities, however, mean that even a small convention can sometimes drive the prices up at odd times -- then again, because conventions are often booked for weekdays, an atypical drop in price can occur on weekends. Just call or look at the website. The recently renovated, generously sized rooms look fresh and include very good pillow-top mattresses and excellent amenities. Bathrooms are smallish but do have nifty oval tubs. Upgrading to club level gets some complimentary food and beverages served in a grown-up lounge.

Satellite TV Dishes Come In Three Flavors

Which of the satellite TV dishes you use will depend on the type of service you want and the receiver you are using. The most popular Direct TV dish is the 18-inch round that works with a single LNB, Low Noise Blocker receptor, which collects the signal from the parabolic dish, with two outputs, It is commonly used in homes with two television sets, or more, which requires being able to watch two programs at the same time.

The cables from both outlets can be connected to two different receivers so as to be able to record one program while watching a second show, provided your receiver is equipped with a digital video recorder. Other satellite TV dishes you may choose is an 18-inch by 20-inch oblong with three LNBs and four outputs or a 22-inch by 36-inch dish that is used for World Direct Services, usually for Vietnamese, Chinese and Asian programming.

Four Satellites Used For Programming Signals

There are four satellites in geosynchronous orbit above the equator, which is why satellite TV dishes must be pointing towards the southern sky, at different longitudes, for different programming options. At 95-degrees, the satellite is used for the larger dish for World Direct Services.

The dual LNB dish only looks at the 101-degree longitude satellite while the three LNB dish will view one of the others, at 110 or 119-degrees. The triple LNB units are required for high definition programming as well as some local programming capabilities.

Public Speaking Training Tips For Better Business Presentations To Culturally Diverse Audiences

Audiences around the world are all different.

Cultural, social and religious differences impact on how people learn, take in information and interact with presenters.

After delivering 3 presentations to 1,200 Managers and Franchisees from the largest fast food company in the Philippines, these are my thoughts on how to make an impact with culturally diverse audiences.

This is the result of extensive feedback and practical knowledge of what works and what doesn't after delivering business presentations throughout Asia.

Here are 10 Tips on Delivering Better Business Presentations to Asian Audiences.

1. Do Your Research. Find out as much as you can about the country and organisation you are working with. Read guidebooks, travel magazines, search the Internet and use the local media to gain as much knowledge as you can about the cultural background and history of the people you are working with.

2. Use local language and key phrases as an icebreaker, welcome or to highlight important points. Modify the content of your presentation to account for local differences. For example, in my work in the Philippines I used a range of local 'Tagalog' (one of the two official languages) words in both my welcome and presentation to make points and this went down really well. Former US President JFK used "Ich bin ein Berliner" to great effect in Germany during one of his speeches.

3. Use local examples. Nothing goes down better when trying to explain a new concept than using a local example. This will make your presentation more relevant.

4. Get to know the audience. It is most likely you will be a foreigner and many in the audience may not know you very well at all. Meet as many people personally before the presentation as possible. When presenting let the audience warm up to you before throwing questions at them. I've noticed light-hearted bantering with the audience at the beginning of a presentation works well.

5. Speak slowly and clearly. For many Asians, English is not their first language. Speak with less of an accent and present more slowly than you would with an Australian audience.

An Israeli-owned real estate investment group, in what is being called the most expensive large-site transaction on the Strip, has bought the New Frontier and its 36 Strip acres for more than $1.2 billion, the casino's current owner, Phil Ruffin, confirmed late Tuesday.

Ruffin said El Ad Properties, which controls several landmark New York City buildings, signed the purchase agreement last week for the hotel-casino site.

Ruffin, a Wichita, Kan., businessman who paid $167 million for the New Frontier in 1998, had been seeking an equity partner to help finance redevelopment of the New Frontier into a 2,750-room Swiss-themed resort.

He said a $100 million deposit on the deal arrived Monday.

"We're under contract, and that means we're doing the deal," Ruffin said. "We've been successful with the property, but it got to a point where it was better to let someone else come in and redevelop the site."

Ruffin had been in negotiations with El Ad since March. An Internet-based real estate Web site reported a deal had been struck to sell the New Frontier to El Ad for $1.5 billion on March 19, but Ruffin denied the reports.

Ruffin and gaming sources familiar with the deal said El Ad will close the aging Western-themed hotel-casino when the transaction is completed in 90 days. The 984-room New Frontier will be demolished, and El Ad will build a replica of New York's landmark Plaza Hotel on the site.

El Ad bought the Plaza in 2005 for $675 million and is remodeling the renowned property, which includes converting some units into Manhattan's highest-priced condominiums.

The 20 foot shipping container that have lost their appeal for shipping have regained some life and now provide housing for many people. These containers have been used for many other applications other than shipping. To learn some history and new application for this container, read this article.

Many years ago the 20 foot shipping container was invented for shipment of goods. The first shipping company to use the shipping container was Matson. The height and length of this steel container van is ideal for shipment purposes. However, as years pass by, no longer do shipping companies use the same van. Hence, they are discarded as used shipping container.

Because these used shipping containers are left idle in one place, and can cause pollution to the environment, some geniuses worked on finding more uses for these storage containers. And they did.

These geniuses converted the metal containers into housing facilities, making a small and local community providing safe shelter and storage for many. The containers are even joined together to resemble a multi-storey and multi-room structure.

Hence, each unit can have two or three-storey complete with bedrooms, kitchen, living room, toilet and even a terrace. These units are placed side-by-side resembling a multi-units apartment building.

There are even beach resorts in the United States that have beach houses built from several 20 foot shipping containers. These containers are repaired and repainted to appear as if the entire structure has been constructed from new concrete and wooden materials.

Besides that, there are also industries that find the steel shipping container to be useful. Businesses use these ISO shipping containers as a portable building for temporary or permanent office, on-site office, and storage room. The containers are designed to meet the requirements of having an office building with amenities. Some use these metal objects for extension of office.
