What To Look For
Winter bike gloves should protect your hands from the elements during harsh winter temperatures. However, the gloves also have to be flexible enough to provide a comfortable and safe grip on the handle bars. Flexible, warm gloves can be hard to find. Gloves made with fleece insulation often provide better warmth. If you bike in the rain, then look for waterproofing features. All gloves should fit close around the fingers, unless they are lobster claw style, and tight around the wrists. Bike Radar.com recommends the Specialized Radiant gloves for the best insulated gloves. Bike Radar recommends the Altura Night Visions gloves for warmer winter days because of their reflective pads, comfort and waterproof features. Bicycling Magazine recommends the P.R.O. Lobster Wind Mitt for winter biking because of its flexibility. This glove can convert from a lobster style glove to a five-fingered glove. It also provides insulation, a comfortable fit and waterproofing.
Common Pitfalls
Most people think that in the winter gloves should be thick and bulky to provide the necessary insulation. This is not the case. Usually gloves made of quality materials that fit closely around the hands provide better all-around warmth. Choose a glove based on your riding style. Waterproof gloves are not necessary for dry rides. If you do not use all fingers individually during a ride, then a lobster claw glove will probably suit your needs better. Usually more expensive gloves will offer more features, but only choose a glove that has features you will actually use. Make sure to buy women's gloves if you are a women and men's if you are a man. The fit is different enough to change the performance of the glove.
Where To Buy
